Hi everyone. I have a question that I am unsure of. I'm hoping someone could advise me. I recently purchased two second hand budgies which I'm told are 7 months old.. I'm not sure of that though! Anyway, with the budgies come a cage with a nesting box attached.I've watched their behavior and i'm sure they are nto mating. My question is should I take the nesting box off or is it cruel to because Cassie sits in there sometimes.I'm trying to tame them both but she likes to dive into the box everyone I open the cage door. I'm having problems with the male Rodney biting, but reading some of the threads on here should help me with this. Any help would be much appreciated

It's not cruel to take the nest box away, I certainly would. Have you got any pictures for us? Welcome to the forum.

Unless you plan to breed them, which I'd not recommend until you've had them a lot longer but mostly unless you've done a lot of research, then please remove the nest box. They don't need it and it could cause problems for the hen such as becoming egg bound.

Thankyou for your advise and warm welcome. I will remove the box immediately. I just wasn't sure as I wasn't even told there was a box even on the cage. It was only when I picked it up And the female wouldn't leave it due to fear of the previous owners i believe. Thanks again. I'll post some pics in due course

Hi and welcome to the forum. Good advice from the members above. The birds should not have been given a nest box until they were both at least 12 months old. I realize you are not sure of their ages, so even more reason to take the box off.
With their taming, don't expect miracles to occur straight off; budgies are naturally suspicious creatures and you will need to work to gain their trust. It sounds as though their previous life could have been better, so you are going to have to work to make up for their mistakes, as well.
