hello there, I got a Pair which is pretty bonded. She is in Breeding Condition and I have seen the Male feeding her a lot. She has been in the Breeding Box and throwing some of the Shavings out. He is very Vocal and jumps from Perch to Perch. When he gets her to arch her back he try's to mount her but then she chases after him. I didn't seen them Mate yet but I have noticed her poop is bigger then normal. Would you say they are a good pair or should I pair them up with another one. I'm a bit Confused. Maybe you guys can give me some pointers.

Hi large poop from the hen is a sign that she is due to lay an egg. Now is the time to do lots of research and ask all the questions you can think of. What diet are you giving them? The should be on a good seed mix and provided with oyster shell grit, cuttlefish, iodine block, and egg food with vegetables. Also a calcium supplement should be added to the water to ensure the hen gets enough calcium and produces strong shelled eggs.

They have all the things you just said and they also het fresh fruit and vegetables. I had a Breeding pair last year who had 5 Eggs all Fertile. But with this pair im unsure like i said i havrnt seen them mate yet. He tryed a few time to mount ger when i have seen them but couldnt because she then has chased him away after she arches her back. But then there is the poop whichs is bigger then normal.

I guess its a case of wait and see then They could just be being sneaky about it haha! I haven't seen my pair mating yet but they definitely are because they have five eggs and counting. So far 1, 2, and 3 are fertile, the other two I've yet to check, so they're doing something right. I hope you get an egg soon

Remember, though, that the hen can go into egg-laying mode without the cock doing his bit. It certainly isn't unknown for a single hen, with no other budgies about, to produce eggs.
