Nature at it's best In the picture next to river/pond, almost all the budgies are babies.

Unfortunately there will be a high rate of attrition, as the good season passes and things become very dry again. The same thing happened a couple of years ago in western Queensland after a big wet season - budgies everywhere. The numbers just can't be sustained.

Would love to go out with a big net and catch some of them... The difference in size compared to exhibition, or even pet type budgies is unbelievable. Totally different birds.

Nah, you can get permits to catch them. They sell them here as "Bush Budgies." It is highly regulated but some people are able to. They are way to far from me though, They live up north and I'm down South... Some Aboriginals eat them, thus the name Budgerigar meaning good for food...

That's a sight I would love to see one day.
Snatching them from the wild to keep as a pet is just wrong. I feel sorry enough for my own budgies as they will never experience the wild like that, and I know they would love that freedom.

I don't mean to sound harsh but where do you think your pets came from? Their fore feathers were captured and bred, and inbred, and bred some more, then inbred again... etc etc. There is a reason why most of the birds in that photo are babies... (they don't last long)

I think it's just a difference of opinion because we're in different countries.
Another way to look at it is that if you did catch some (with a permit of course) then you could probably give them a longer life than in the wild.

That's right. I think one of the budgies who lived a long life was in a zoo.
