Hello
My name is Linda and I have just joined this forum. I am due to get a new baby budgie from the breeder in roughly a week's time.
He's been tamed by the breeder, so I am hoping he's going to like coming out of his cage.
I've been looking at cages, and I've narrowed it down to the following four. I've been dithering over these for the past week, so feel I need some help choosing ! They are :-
Liberta Siam (Medium) Rainforest Costa Rica Mara Hagen Vision
I would welcome your opinions and advice to help me come to a decision. I have seen them all "in the flesh", but still need some expert guidance.
Many thanks Linda

Hello and welcome. My personal preference is the Hagen Vision. The medium is the smallest I would think about. There is a small one but I think it is too small. Other members will be along with their preferences.

Many thanks. I appreciate your opinion. Will also be interested to hear what others think. Just made the mistake of going on the Zooplus website (hope I'm allowed to mention that !), so am now even more confused, as there are some on there I hadn't even considered !!!

Hi Linda, Go for the biggest one you can afford. The Hagen Vision are decent cages but go for a bigger size one. I have a mix of the small and medium ones, but my birds only sleep in them or go to vet in them. I wouldn't have them if my birds were kept in the cage a lot of the day. As well as zoo plus look on Amazon, Northern parrots or Scarletts Parrot essentials under bird species for recommendations. I know some other members have Ferplast cages. Those seem popular too.

There are more cages than you can shake a stick at. To help you cut your choices down a bit. You want one that is long rather than tall. Look at the biggest you can afford. Go for good quality over fancy design. You will need to be able to clean it easily. That should get you going.

Thank you for your comments. Scarlett's parrots looks very good, as it has some handy videos of some of the cages. To be honest two from my list look very similar (Liberta Siam and Rainforest Costa Rica, though not sure if either one is better). Another question related to this is we have a static caravan, and I'm hoping to take my new feathered friend on holiday. If I were to have a different cage at the caravan, do you think it would distress him ? I realise all budgies are different, but I've heard they don't tend to like swapping cages. If he were okay, I could maybe have a larger cage at home, and a slightly smaller one for the caravan

Thank you for the suggestions. It is all very confusing, and I just want to get the best cage I can. Regarding quality what are considered the best makes? Some of the ones on my list have vertical as well as horizontal bars, and some have perches running lengthways rather than widthways. I've read lots of helpful information on the forum this evening, but still can't decide. Will have to make a decision soon though.

Just spotted the Liberta Arizona on Amazon. Looks a nice cage. Any opinions on this please?

Thank you again for your comments. I fully understand what you mean about the cage being too small, however, it doesn't seem too much smaller than the Hagen Vision medium cage which a lot of people on here seem to favour. Sadly I haven't got the space for a large cage. Will need to choose soon though, as our new pet will be ready after the weekend. The Ferplast one is lovely, but at 87 cms wide, I just couldn't accommodate it.

Well, just do the best you can. As long as birdie has as much outside time as possible (once you have taming and training underway) then there shouldn't be too much of an issue. Hopefully you will be about to get a bigger one later on. Anything around or bigger than that 60cms wide should be okay.

Hello, personally I like the Hagen Vision of the two. It's got a nice deep base (Teddy accesses the bottom via a wooden ladder) - and little flaps to cover the feeding and water dishes and protect from droppings. You can also easily change food dishes. I removed the wire bottom and change paper towel flooring daily, because Teddy loves pottering around and playing with his ball. Also two doors that open independently or together are great allowing your budgie a wide opening (you can buy a little landing platform) and easy access for you. It's a modern looking cage - which I like, but others may prefer a traditional looking cage. The Hagen comes with plastic perches, but I removed them in favour of wooden and rope perches - they just didn't look that comfortable. I'm sure both cages have good and bad points, good luck! Looking forward to seeing your new budgie baby!
