More curious than worried, but yesterday I noticed the Smudge (who is moulting at the moment) had blood spots on her wing when she lifted them to stretch. I caught her and stretched both wings out and on one wing it seems to be the first, longest flight feather that the quill is filled with blood and on the other wing one of those smaller feathers just on the outside of that longest flight feather. Coincidence or not? She has lost some of the flight feathers moulting but not to hamper her flying. And haven't noticed it happen before. Any ideas on why this has happened to both at the same time? I expect she will lose those feather, right?, but does this mean that the follicle is now damaged?

All feather quills fill with blood when growing Hezz, this is normal.

Why have I never noticed this before then, Barrie? She is about 18months old and I have had her most of that time. I can understand that it is going to stand out more with Smudge as she is a recessive pied (?.....think I got that right) so all those wing feathers are white.
So that would mean that these are the new feathers then, Barrie? Not old ones? Having been away from them for a couple of weeks, I am not too sure which flight feathers she lost while on hols.
