Hi,i bought a male budgie chick 3 years ago(yellow one on the pics) and hand tamed him. We were getting along good, but i worried about his loneliness and bought a female chick 6 months ago(blue one),hand tamed her too. They never saw or heard each other before that. Last week i introduced them, by putting their cages next to each other, but male one doesn't seem to be interested in her, he keeps playing with his toys. When i get them out of their cages, female bird follows the male and tries to kiss him(beak to beak, that is what i understand as kissing) and scratches his neck all the time. Even though male budgie counters her kisses, it looks like he runs off from her all the time. I want them to be friends, maybe breed in the future. Is this normal, or did i do something wrong?I also added some pics for you to see. Thanks for advices!

I think you could have 2 hens. If you can get a clear picture of their faces we could have a better idea.

Sorry to be a pain but could you upload the pictures via a photo hosting site like photobucket. The ones here are too small to see clearly and when clicked on become very blurred so also difficult to see.

The blue one is a Hen, I can just see that but the yellow one is a bit more difficult to tell.

qweqwe113, if you use Add image to post button and select the size for forums 648x480 pixels you should get a better result.

Really sorry, the pictures are still not clear but from what I can make out they are both hens, clearer pictures in natural light would confirm it.

Maybe if you could scale the image to a smaller version they will not look as grainy. When you upload the images do you select a size to display or leave it at the default setting? When I view the images on my pc they are quite large and I have to scroll to the part I need to see.

That shows up as a better size now. Although they are a bit blurred they are a better size and we can see the colour of the cere better. Although I am not an expert, at a guess I would be with Starlingqueen and say two hens. Having said that in the last photo I do see a hint of blue in the cere, which brings my guess into doubt.

Well lol, i called him/her my boy over 3 years I thought he/she was a lutino, i can't get a better camera right now for better pictures but from what i have read lutino cocks have pink/purple cere and lutino hens have brown ones. My bird has obviously a pink/purple cere, yet i don't know much about budgies, but thanks anyway

Same here OP. We need a good sharp picture to be sure.

I guess the discussion is still open. Starlingqueen certainly knows her stuff, however other experts are in bed at the moment so they may have a different idea when they see the posts. They will probably also say a clearer picture in better natural light would help. We do like a challenge on here so don't despair, just yet. Don't go changing budgies names yet either. I have a budgie called Edward and she definitely is a hen.
