I guess the discussion is still open. Starlingqueen certainly knows her stuff, however other experts are in bed at the moment so they may have a different idea when they see the posts. They will probably also say a clearer picture in better natural light would help. We do like a challenge on here so don't despair, just yet. Don't go changing budgies names yet either. I have a budgie called Edward and she definitely is a hen. lol lets see what the others will say then.I'll try to get a better pic,i'm using a 12MP cellphone camera right now. You can zoom in or out with ctrl+mouse wheel anyway, yet i can reduce the size of pics as you want, but i don't think it gets sharper that way. Nevertheless, thank you so much for trying to help me.

Im definitely no expert but just wanted to say they are both stunning. But i thought lutinos have red/pink eyes so i dont think your little yellow lad/lady is lutino. But dont hold me to that i could be totally wrong. From what i can see based on yellow not being lutino i would also say hen but like i said im a very new budgie fanatic just going by lots of research ?

I am not convinced your pale yellow is a hen. Get the light behind you when taking the photos, and a good sharp image is needed to be sure.
But that wasn't you question, so back to your question, it sounds like all very typical budgie behaviour to me. The older bird has been on his own for some time; he isn't necessarily going to be immediately taken with having an other bird in his space. Give them time together and time apart so your older bird is not overwhelmed by the attentions of the new. It is a bit like moving a stranger into your own home and expecting to get along immediately.

I studied the pics last night, im inclined to say that the yellow bird is a male, a bit difficult with the pics though. I think you need to give them time, im sure they will be fine, lovely buds .

Do you have a 'macro' facility on your camera qweqwe113? Using that may help with the clarity of your pictures. Lovely budgies btw!
