So I know how awful the dowel rod perches are long term for our feathered friends' feet. Basal has many natural branches for perching in his cage. But I wanted to run this idea by you guys. He likes to sit in the window, but I worry he is hurting his feet because he will sit on the metal lip where the window would slide open. He is also still afraid of most everything new so putting something large in the window with him wouldn't be too productive. Now, he doesn't stay there all day or anything so I've placed one of the old dowel rods from his cage in the window so he at least sits on that and not the metal lip. Is this okay? The metal lip of the window isn't sharp, but I worry it could hurt his feet because it's thin and when he stands on it it just looks uncomfortable.

I would have thought it was ok. Bailey sits on a thin edge of a candle holder at times. Do you have enough depth on the ledge to put a small branch? I bought one from Pets At Home. It's about a foot long with a few different bits jutting out so he sits on one part of that, looking out the window
