We've had quite a few visits to the vet, not only with Georgie my chicken, but with Harvey my budgie. My non-avian Vet decided eventually that it wasn't bumblefoot, but arthritis. After a series of different meds, after my religious washing and medicating of feet, there was absolutely no improvement whatsoever.
Harvey had no quality of life at all, and on two occasions when I let him out, Billy Boy attacked him and I am ashamed to say that Missy did too, and she was his bestest mate. He couldn't perch and slept a lot flat on his face in his hospital cage. He did have the odd little bit of exercise which I encouraged him to do.
So yesterday I thought 'what would I advise someone on the forum who told me Harvey's story?' and therefore came to the decision it wasn't fair on him to keep him going on any longer. So I had him put to sleep yesterday.
I am going to bury him, somewhere where the chickens can't get at him and put a little yellow rose above him. Like my chicken, he was my favourite, although I do love all the other birds I have.
Fly high: Billy Boy, Charlie, Harvey, JoJo, Joe, Lacey, Missy, Oscar, Pickle and Smudge. RIP: Penny, Poppy, Lola, Georgie, Bea, Morgana, Phoebe, Truffle, Hazel, Tilly, Tuppence and Mollie.
Shirls, another one. So sorry for you and your little friends. At least they are no longer in pain. I'm sure they both knew you loved them. Rest in Peace Harvey & Georgie. Please let the sun begin to shine for Shirls.
Joint problems are one of my worst nightamares when it comes to pets... I have a huge dog, in these big breeds, joint problems are like a black cloud above and you just don't know when the storm will come and like... you always have an umbrella open, but a hurricane might just pop up instead...
So unfair... it's horrible debilitating pains when it gets bad, and they only show it when it gets bad unfortunately...
... so even little birds suffer from this...
I'm sory for your loss. End even more sory for the pain the little guy has been thru.
Sometimes I question God because of these things... there's no reason animals should suffer, they have no sins.

Rest in Peace, sweet handsome Harvey. Keep his cute face and happy song close to your heart, and he will be with you forever. The most difficult decisions are made with the most love. Harvey, we will miss you. Another angel to make heaven even more beautiful. I am so sorry for your loss, Shirls. So sad.
I am so sorry Shirls, you couldn't have done anything more, I hope Billy Boy, Pickles and the others will help with the pain and get into all sorts of mischief to help you through the days. Thoughts are with you. Sue
