Mine are moulting too, I think it's just the time of year!

Sometimes Monts goes through what I call a "mini moult"! You probably think I am mad but I do think they have a couple of BIG moults in the warmer seasons and perhaps smaller ones when they need to just re-condition themselves?

Its probably because of it being such cold weather we are all cranking up the central heating which makes the budgies moult. I only have one budgie moulting at the moment but she is going through quite a bad one.

Good point, Rachael. I always thought that Blueberry and Jellybean had mini molts. One started a few days ago, when I turned on their heater. It all makes sense now.

This must be a partial moult and they will appreciate plenty of protein

I was wondering about the protein too. Would it naturally be in the seeds they eat? My budgie is currently on seeds but I don't really know what else to give him. He just ignores fruit, even when he's hungry.
Also, aren't budgies originally from warm places like Australia? It might be winter here in Britain, but it's summer in Australia, so it seems likely that the birds out there would be moulting now, so maybe budgies still follow that pattern a little bit, even in a colder climate.

There's some vegetable protein in seed, but extras include boiled eggs, that egg food stuff which you can mix in with chopped veges, the occasional chicken carcass, and also you may have extra protein in any supplements you might be feeding. Check their labels to see.
Things like cooked lentils and beans are also high in protein. They are eaten by vegetarians to raise their protein levels as well. If you google 'budgies and beans or lentils" you might find some ideas.
