Well, I'm really dissapointed right now because I was so looking forward to seeing my eggs hatch and become beautiful budgies. Sadly, It has been 21 days since the first egg was incubated on and no sign of peeping. I candled them yesterday and it seems all of my 7 eggs were infertile being yellow and empty. Ive got a male and a female. I just wanna know the cause to this. I also want to know what it means when a Male is infertile. I really want my budgies to breed again SOON. I have fresh fruits, vegetables, egg food on the way and unlimited calcium supply and their regular seed diet so lack of energy and food isn't going to be a problemo. Should I wait for the hen to stop sitting on the eggs or should I throw them out to encourage more laying? Don't know what to do because I really want chicks! Thanks in advance.

Yeah it's such a shame to be honest. And this is their first time breeding and ive had them for 3 years +, though I did just purchase the nestbox last month when I noticed some breeding behaviour.

Thanks Hezz. Will be looking forward to a new clutch soon. By the way, At night we leave a bit of light in the room so the birds can see but is it fine if the nestbox is almost pitch dark? When I wake up in the morning, the budgie is inside but I was wondering if she will be able to see during the night. Rotating eggs, and sitting through each during the night in a dark nest box wouldnt be a problem right?

I also just realized one thing, My female is in breeding condition (crusty brown cere) but my male seems to get a little blue in the middle of his cere but overall its a pinkish purple colour. Does it have to become blue to make a fertile cock leading to fertile eggs? If so, how can i encourage my male budgie to get into breeding condition? He seems like he is though.

Both of your birds maybe fertile, but as it's their first time you probably won't be successful. You need to bring the birds into breeding condition well ahead of when you want them to breed, by providing good food, and not just seed. Try something like Super Breeder to help bring your hen into "better" condition. You can throw away all of the eggs, and I suggest remove the nest box for now, and get onto a good diet recommended by Barrie and his thread (as provided by Hezz above). The main reason for infertile eggs is birds out of condition. Breeding birds should have enough light at night so they can get back into the box and get back onto the eggs, as the hen will leave the box to eat and poop.

Thanks so much. I think i will provide rich and protein+calcium filled food for my budgies until they are healthy for another clutch. Thanks a lot
