That sounds good then, Claire. It could also work as a transport cage too, if you need to take a bird for a vet check. Although it may be a bit too tall for that. See if you can't find one that will work for both situations. The one I use has probably the same dimensions but has a silly little roof thing over one side, so some wasted space. I use it only as a quarantine cage, transporting either from floor to floor or by car, or at a pinch as a hospital cage. It is good to have a spare around for those times. Happy hunting!

This is a great cage Thomas I would remove the bottom perches as it will give them some flying space. They won't be using these perches anyway as budgies like perch as high as they can in the cage. Also placing the water feeder on a higher level will help keep the water clean.

I, too, have my water higher up in the cage to avoid poop contamination, and my seed closer to the bottom to mimic the idea of budgie ground foraging.

I have just been reading this thread with interest as it has been a while since I last checked. I think all of your cages are fantastic I shall have to take photos of my cages and aviary tomorrow after they have had their big weekly scrub and clean out. I can see tomorrow being a long day lol. In the meantime I do have some photos of Hollys' cage. Holly is a budgie I took on in December last year as her owner could no longer keep her due to her tweeting making the womans little girl cry. Holly has a problen with one of her wings which means she can't fly so she can't live with my other budgies as they are too rough and she could fall (aka be pushed) and hurt herself as the others are in a really big flight cage. I have a smaller cage for her so she doesn't have a big drop when she falls, which she does quite often, but she comes out to play a lot during the day. Holly on her favourite swing

I know most of you guy's have your birds out a lot, I still think some cages can be too cluttered, the fundamental Behaviour of any bird is to fly,so the further the perches are away from each other the better and space provided for flight.........

True Brian.
Mine are out all day though so I primarily set up the cage for roosting at night for my fiends, therefore lots of perches near the top.

Hmm maybe i wasn't clear enough, Skyla's cage is essentially just a playground rather than a 'cage' because i don't believe in caging any bird longer than necessary, my grey has only ever slept in his cage and it's the same for the budgie, although they are not in the same room. So as her cage is just a play area and only gets shut with her in it at night time i don't see it's too cluttered really and she seems to enjoy bouncing around playing with all her toys. She comes and goes as she pleases and chooses to play in her cage bashing her toys a lot of the time. i should also mention that unfortunately she is clipped at the moment [breeder did this not me] so she can barely fly anyway.

Thats fine then Skyla, she is out most of the day and will be able to fly when her feathers grow, shame on the Breeder for doing that

i know, i just hope it hasn't affected the feather growth as i have heard that clipping can cause problems with future flight if done at a young age.

without me hijacking this thread, just quickly, how long does it take for flight feathers to grow back?
