without me hijacking this thread, just quickly, how long does it take for flight feathers to grow back? It will take 4 to 6 months to fully grow, but he should be able to fly after a few weeks.....

Here is one of my cages. Not a very clear photo sorry. I have 4 cages on the go at the moment!! If I don't have all the perches along the top then they fight at bedtime! (they still squabble of course but it settles quicker!)

thanks Brian. Can just imagine the squabble for the highest perch Marianne, Skyla only sleeps on her swing for some reason, totally ignoring the top sand perch behind it! have caught her snoozing on the canopy swing she has in there too, maybe it's the rocking motion she likes like a baby

I know most of you guy's have your birds out a lot, I still think some cages can be too cluttered, the fundamental Behaviour of any bird is to fly,so the further the perches are away from each other the better and space provided for flight......... I do agree with this is most cases Brian With Holly, as she is unable to fly due to a damaged wing, I have to make sure that her perches aren't too far apart otherwise she ends up falling, they have to be a jumping distance apart. I do think that too many toys in a cage can restrict a budgie from stretching their wings but too little toys would mean not enough mental stimulation for our little guys. My budgies go crazy exploring their cage when I put new toys in ;D

I do agree with you Brian, regarding too much crowding of the cage with toys. I have just been watching Sparky spending about half an hour flitting and flying for perch to perch, zigzagging about top to bottom, across, up to top, across, back across to bottom etc, etc. Too much clutter and that can't happen. Mind you, he is probably feeling his oats today - no Blue to feed or even chat to. He has still had heaps of time out, but early evening I would usually get him out again, but he hassles Blue if I let him out and Blue isn't well at the moment.

Good post Hezz, if they could just have a straight run from perch to perch would be better, and toys round the sides etc,I am sorry about blue, hope he comes round.........

Yes he does have a clean run across and diagonally down. I put the toys at the sides and at the back of the cage, and the grasses etc around the edges too, so plenty of flit room.
