Ohh, good to see someone else has read a decent book, lately. I was wondering if I was the only one reading, still. Our library doesn't have it/him! You really must get a Kindle or something similar Hezz. You would get used to it and lots of books are free!

I love to hold and turn the pages of a book. You can't replicate that with a Kindle Shirls 😁

jellybean I use to feel like that about paper books until I was given a Kindle for a present and I now love my Kindle and can't read a paper book at all, I never thought I'd say that and it took me over a month to pick it up & try it but as soon as I did I thought it was so much easier

I'm like you, jellybean - love to feel a proper book. I wouldn't be against an electronic reader for different times, perhaps.

I think it's sad that future generations of children will never know the joy of browsing through the shelves of a library or a bookshop.

I have to agree with everyone regarding holding a new book, the feel, the smell, but, so expensive to buy these days! I have converted to a Kindle and one can get so many cheap or free books. I do keep my favourite books and read them from time to time, but holding a kindle is so light and easy to manage, (especially when reading in bed) I can't recommend them highly enough.

Books are FREE at the library Shirls All the girls at my local library are nice, and are more than happy to help search for, or order a book if not in stock.

I use the library as well. jellybean. Very lucky to have one near my local shops, only a couple of blocks away from home. Using the library internet services to order books kept by the council library system but maybe not actually in my local library, is quick and easy and if the book is available I have it in a day, maybe two. Agree also about children and books. I have kept all my boys' books, and hope they will be able to pass on their love for reading to theirs when and if they happen. Most are in pretty good condition, as well. We all looked after them properly.

I haven’t had time to read lately. I used to read when I came to bed but I’ve been so shattered from renovating our kitchen/dining room I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Going to the library for me would be a pain, due to accessability, parking etc. However, when I lived in more temporary accommodation, I did use the local library. But I must say I do like clean, new books, not ones with a tatty cover and turned down page corners!!!

Oh, you book-snob, you, Shirls! I do understand what you say about accessibility, though. My library is soo close. They tried to close it down a number of years ago, but it is so convenient to a lot of families, on the way home from school, that there was an uproar. Instead we got a nice new built-for-purpose library, right on my door-step, so to speak. The only books I buy now are ones I want to keep - generally bird books. I have my father's bird reference books; they are probably my most precious.

Something to think about ... the ubiquitous "they" tell us we shouldn't use screens before sleep as they stuff up our sleep patterns etc; my most precious reading moments are in bed before nodding off in the evenings. I wonder where a kindle or the like fit into this scenario. Food for thought, perhaps?

I’ve been reading books by Lars Kelper and I’ve just started reading The Darkness by Ragnar Jonasson which I recommend.

I think we can add these to Crime or Thrillers, don't you think, Jane? Whichever you think suits best. I couldn't find Lars Kelper in fantastic fiction; I wonder if he might have an alternative spelling? Ragnar Jonasson certainly looks interesting.
