Hello, I am new to keeping budgies but have always loved them. I have recently moved home and have inherited a large summerhouse in my new garden. It measures 12ft by 10ft and has 4 windows and 2 window/doors. Would I be able to convert this into an aviary if I remove the glass and put in mesh panels? Would this be enough ventiliation? The garden is very large and I know of one family of foxes living in the garden itself. I am sure there are also rats. Owls and bats are seen at night too. Are any of these a danger to budgies? I am concerned that rats will try and gnaw their way into the aviary too through the wooden floor so is there anyway I can make this rat-proof?
What is the best number of birds to have please? I don't want too many. Do they require a seperate area for nightime as well, if so, what sort of size please?
So, so sorry to go on but there is so much I don't know at this stage and you people will be the best to ask. Thanks

Hello, I have converted my daughters Wendy house so I think yes its possible . I have put mine on top of blocks though for the reason you have said, keeping rats and mice out. I have also conctreted slabs down for the floor for the same reason. Here's a link if its any help to you... budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/10731/first-aviary-advice?page=2

Sorry I just re read your post. You could mesh the floor I guess and maybe put another layer of wood over that. I would possibly keep the windows in to give the birds a bit of warmth during the winter, colder months.
