Glad the birdies are having some grass at long last. My guys are lucky enough to get theirs every day. Spoilt!

Is this just normal seeded grass? The type you'd pick in a field? And would you normally rinse it? I am picking up so many tips

Yes, that's the stuff blue48. I steep mine in the bath with some F10 for about 30/40 minutes.

I'm looking at Amazon. Is that the F10 antiseptic solution or the veterinary disinfectant? Or are they both the same?
Ignore me, just found the Avian disinfectant further down the page.

I use the veterinary disinfectant blue48 , it's very concentrated so you only need a drop.

Lovely pics skysmum ! I spotted the first grass with a seed head in a roadside verge yesterday but didn't pick it as there are so many people walking dogs around here at the moment that it had a good chance of being contaminated. I'm going to wait until the grasses appear in our garden, just to be safe. I can't wait for Willow to try them. In the mean time he's loving the millet grass though - thanks jellybean ! Glad your boys are enjoying their seeding grass too. Can I just check, are all grasses with seed heads safe to feed? There are so many different wild grasses and some are pretty tricky to identify.

Wild field grass is all good, willowsmum. Don't give him ornamental grasses, though; apparently they can contain toxins. Pick anything with a fresh seed-head, the older, drier ones will have dropped their seed. Be sure that no herbicides or pesticides have been used and you don't pick close to a busy road, although the herbicides that most councils here use might make a bud sick for a day, it doesn't kill them. I only give mine a quick rinse under the tap, but I do acknowledge that different areas of the world use different chemicals and are more polluted.

This is the type of thing to look out for willowsmum, these were from a couple of years ago.

I'm going out today for my one hour's exercise. There's a nature reserve very near me which is very much untouched so I'll be looking out for some grass with seed heads. Wish me luck

Hezz that's great advice, thanks. jellybean thanks for the pic. Isn't it weird that I'm looking at it and thinking how fresh and tasty they look? Not something that would have crossed my mind before I had a little bud to take care of! They look very pretty too though. blue48 good luck!
