at the moment i have two breeding cages 1 with the nest box fitted inside the cage and the other with the box fitted on the outside of the cage and only the pair of budgies with the nest box fitted on the outside use there box use it, as far as im aware the pair with the box fitted inside the cage have not been in it. is this personal preference of the birds or should the nest box be fitted on the outside of the cage?

i have cut away the corner of the cage front and fitted the box inside that way so im able to check the nest easily still, i have done it this way to try and save space but worried they may prefer the box on the outside and as a result have redundant breeding space

All my nest boxes are external and at the top left end of the cage front. This makes it easier for inspection and for cleaning.

thanks albino im considering switching my internal box to the outside although it is just as easy to inspect as an external box i just find it strange how the pair dont use this box but do use the external one on my other breeding cage

I prefer to attach from the side as my breeding stands are movable. It gives me full view of the breeding cage.
