Hello, Im hoping someone can answer a few questions for me please We have 2 budgies Bob is a hen 2 1/2 yrs old, Bluey a cock 1 1/2 yrs old. I have to say they love each other very much .any way I will get to the point, This is the first time ever Bob has laid ,she has laid 6 eggs in total, the first, 3 did not do well, one got broken, I'm not sure what happened to the other 2, last sunday she laid the 4th one ,and stayed the nesting box almost 24/7, then on tuesday she laid another one, again all was giong well, then thursday she flew out of the box with an eggs stuck to her feathers, we tried to catch her, but she flew and the egg dropped and broke, there was also another one on the cage floor, Im presuming that this one may have been stuck too, but fell of and broke, so she was left with one egg, sadly that one has now gone too, so after her her hard work she has no eggs, and has not laid anymore since, also she is still staying in the box almost all the time, just coming out to eat and have a fly, I feel so sorry for her, and not sure what to do for the best. I would be grateful if someone could help . Will she lay more, is this it till next year, I have read a lot on the internet, but am afraid a lot of it conflicts what the other one says. Thank you ;D Attachments:

Some of my first timers had similar problems but a few weeks rest did the trick and they were fine in the next clutch.
One possible reason can be that she sits too tight on the eggs.
I had a situation when an egg was broken as the cock slipped. I was late in changing the concave. The concave was sticky because of the broken egg yolk and every time hen came out of the best box, brought an egg along stuck to her chest and all the eggs were gone in one day.
Less calcium intake can result in thin egg shells. Are you providing her with calcium?
What is your breeding setup like? Sometimes out of condition hens lay eggs when provided with a nest box but will not be interested in incubation.
If you pair is in breeding condition, and in good health, and had only one clutch, they will be fine to have another clutch. But first you will have to find out the reason for broken eggs.
Share some pictures of your setup and budgies.

Thank you so much for your reply, I think we need a new nesting box with deeper concave. She has not laid any eggs since thursday, but is still spending almost all her time in the box, she is eating and flying, when she leaves the box, we only have 2 budgies, they have a large cage, but are never shut in, there are lots of toys, and a tree in the living room, also with toys, they are healthy budgies, they are pets, not for breeding, but we thought we would see if they would mate as they love each other so much. And I have seen them mating, my main concern is Bob staying in the box nearly all day and night, Bluey calls her, and tries to encourage her to come out. They have cuttle fish, mineral block, Trill, millett, trill toppers, eggs food, and fruit sticks, also growing trill seeds. I do have grit, but have never given it, as some say to give some say no. ???Thank you once again.

I think they may be fine in next clutch. Give them second chance.

Some of my cocks go in the nest box to feed the hens during laying and incubation, while some stay outside and call the hen to the nest box entry hole. So nothing to worry about. It seems she is getting ready to lay again. If you are trying to change the nest box, you will have to act quick. The only thing that worries me that Bob maybe out of condition and just laying as she has been provided with a nest box. If this is the case, it advisable to remove the nest box until both are in breeding condition. Best of luck with your pair.
