Yes they do that a lot if they're happy and content or strutting their stuff for a lady friend My tiny Tyler does it a lot but Bonnie isn't generally all that impressed

To know my little munchkin is happy and content is so awesome. I don't think he is strutting his stuff, as there is no-one to look he doesn't have a mate. Thx for making my day!

I agree with Milliej, he seems to be very happy! My boy likes to put on little performances and happiness displays or at least that is my belief! He will also grind his beak, which I have read is a sign of contentment . Would love to see photos of your happy boy!

karlene, that cage really is too tiny for your budgie, I am sorry. Those things really shouldn't be sold; they aren't big enough for a sparrow!! If at all possible, please get him a much bigger cage so that he has room to flit about when he needs to be cage-bound. They are active little souls and need plenty of room to move about in.

Oh my gosh REALLY!? I am horrified! The lady that I got him from said that this was great and that the bars in a bigger cage would be to wide apart!!! I FEEL TERRIBLE NOW! I will organise something by the weekend, I think a friend has a bigger cage which she will give me. I unfortunately can't afford to buy another one now.

Maybe this is a good place to ask this question...how do I know if I am keeping my birdie warm enough? We live in a very cold house so we leave his cover on the back of the cage during the day and cover him entirely with the cover and an extra towel at night.
Thx everyone! Karlene

I do understand; these stores have no compunction selling on things that are highly unnecessary, unsuitable, even downright dangerous! It makes me so mad. If you have any sand sheets or perches, throw them away as well - they goon the harmful list. Just with any new, or used cage you get, make sure that the bar spacing is no more than 1.2cm and if secondhand, give the cage and all it contains a thorough cleaning before using it. This cage will make a beaut transport cage as long as the base doesn't separate from the bottom, and even a quarantine or hospital cage, if you ever need one, so don't panic about it, but give him plenty of outside time until you are able to get the bigger cage set up.

Karlene If you are okay in the house, he should be as well. Do you use central heating, a radiator or anything, to keep warm yourself? But generally what is comfortable for you, should be comfortable for him.

It wasnt the store, they were pushing for the bigger cage! more money for them! It was the lady I got him from. Anyway, I have organised a bigger cage and will post a pic as soon as I have it set up. What must i use for perches if i throw the ones I have away? Oh gees, I am clueless! Poor Harper! I sleep with two duvets and sometimes a blanket too, so I think he needs his double cover at night What would you recommend cleaning his cage with? I use lemon juice as I wanted it as natural as possible. I suppose I have got that wrong to Education please and lots of it! K

You do not have it wrong! Lemon juice is not wrong. I use a gentle dishwashing detergent to wash and a dilute vinegar solution to rinse off. Everything. Cage, perches, toys, seed pots, water receptacles. For natural perches .... I am being kicked off the computer so can't look for you ..... look for budgie safe trees online and have a look through a number of lists, find trees that grow around you, check with a couple of different lists to make sure they say the same, and go forth and harvest. Make the branches you get to be anything from about 1cm in diameter to around 2cms. Get some different types so you have different textures as well. Ideally your budgie's feet should go about two/thirds of the way around the perch, so anything slightly bigger and slightly smaller are great. The odd big one, and tiny one are good, to get his feet really active. There are no stupid questions, only stupid people who don't ask the questions. That is probably a bit harsh, but you get the idea.

Thank you! I will look up trees, but then to identify them around me...hahahahaha! I will try and find a place that sells the natural branches rather! Then they might have a contraption to fix it to the cage too, because I wouldnt know how to do that either!
