Hey there, just joined the forum!
I "rescued" three budgies a little over a year ago. Sadly one of the budgies was rather old, and would not accept me AT ALL... They were never hand tamed, and the only time they would see a hand was their seller that tries to grab them. They were the last few in a cage for sale at the market. I bought three, because I knew these people wouldn't take any advice serious unless you're business for them. The cage was dirty, there was no water, and their food dish was empty. I bought the birds, and asked the seller to take a better care of her birds. Though I never see her again after that.
I guarded my birds from wild animal attacks till last Sunday, few kids thought they could just climb over my fence, and steal my birds! The kids hooked the cage from where I put them to an iron gate door, and broke the top of the cage. I was so shocked when I saw what was left at the scene. I thought the gardener was just being nice, and tried to hang up the cage. But I thought if the cage were to fall from that height, it would not look like it sits there peacefully. I told the security guard what had happened, and he actually caught the kids (hand in cage!) coming back to the scene to steal the bird's food.
So the kids stole my bird, and came back for the seeds!
We called the police to teach the kids a lesson about taking anything they want from someone else yard, and I got one of the budgies back, my favorite one too! The kid said the other two bit him so they flew away, which make sense, because those two were very vicious.
After owning three budgies for that long, I really like the bird, and decided to get a young one for this lonely budgie. I went to the market, and got very lucky to find a decent seller with some chicks between 1-2 months. Although his birds aren't hand tamed either, the baby is so willing to come near me, or eat off my hand. This is like the first time I get to pet a budgie that enjoys it too. Hopefully I get to take it out of its cage one day.
