Re training Bluey

Hi all. Long post sorry.
I have been reading up on the training threads with interest. 
I have Bluey. He was on loan from a friend who used to have aviaries but moved house. His daughter bought him Bluey because she thought he missed the birds. Bluey was I think, greatly ignored, he had one mirror cube with a bell underneath and is nowhere near tame.
I am now getting educated on this forum re bonding/mating/taming, and realise borrowing a budgie for mating wasn't the kindest thing to do.

Anyway. Bluey has now been gifted to me. 'He must be a lot happier now he has a mate'. his owner said.

He has now been here since the beginning of May, bonded with Smokey Jo and they mated resulting in 6 eggs which have days to go before being discarded as infertile. (see my other thread).

He seems to be a good mate to her, doing all the things I think he should.
So. I talk to him every time I pass, and quietly several times a day. He no longer flutters in panic when I change the food and drink any more, and yesterday he actually got on my finger! I was thrilled, he didn't seem to be.

Watching him, he doesn't sing, chat or preen. I have put singing budgies on the computer and sprayed him with water but no action at all.
SJ is still egg sitting. She is really tame and flies out daily. (or did b4 eggs) 
Will he tame up more easily when she isnt nesting? 
And does anyone have any ideas please?

As he has already made improvements, I am sure he will get there with time. There is nothing to be done to hurry up the taming process with birds; it has to be at their own pace, as they gradually learn to trust. It might happen more quickly once the hen is out of the nest, with her being much quieter - usually the more timid will follow the braver or quieter bird's lead. As it has been less than two months, I really don't think he is doing too badly, really.

Thanks Hezz. I have a landing stage and have been putting greens on there for him to nibble. He is making is way on to there timidly. I don't even know if he can fly and if he can, no doubt it will be fun getting him to get back in the cage. I assume he will go in if she is there but she's a smart kid so might enjoy leading him astray.

Mega improvements!! This morning Bluey left the cage! Flying wasn't good, but he didnt exactly crash. Returned with a bit of help, and because he disturbed dormant feathers has been preening big time!
SJ I think has left the eggs. Time to remove them I think :-(

It is all sounding good for a return to normal.

SJ is off the eggs for longer times and is shuffling them around a lot
Her breeder said to leave them in and she will 'recycle' them and this is a good thing. Opinions please???

I really don't want her to try to breed again immediately as we have hols and I don't want that responsibility on her sitter.
Any thoughts??

Remove the nestbox, if you don't her to try again.

Done. She is really lively and I think Bluey was feeling amorous so they're in separate cages for the weekend. The change in him is remarkable. Tweeting and moving about a lot LOT more. Think SJ is good for him!

P.S.   Hooray!!  Bluey has found his way out of his cage with a bit of bribery from myself and Smokey Jo, and is flying round the small room.

He only landed on my arm!  OK she was on my shoulder but maybe he is starting to think of me as a member of his flock.
