Hi guys, I have two budgies and I'm actually kind of curious now since I thought I had two males. However, they are both starting to display courting behaviors. A lot of head bobbing and other things that books have said are signs that they are interested in doing the nasty, lol. My green budgie is pretty clearly a male but the white one...not totally sure. I'm not sure of his age but I got him in May. Hopefully these pictures are clear enough. His cere is pretty pink.

Hya gal, at a guess I would say the white one is a female. They both look a bit young to be doing what the birds and bees do. Though the white one looks older than the green one. It'll be interesting to see what the more experienced members say.

It is hard to tell with those photos, and being a recessive pied, your mostly-white birdy will not get a blue cere like the other one, anyway, but I do think he is a he, and that fits with your description of the cere being quite pink. Feeding and head bobbing, preening etc doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to try to mate; just means they are buddies and enjoy each other's company.

Agree with Hezz I would say a the pied is a male and males do head bob together sometimes or even at toys as they are practising for when a female comes along

Agree with Hezz and Sam, but the pic of the green bird isn't clear enough for me to see if it's a boy or girl.
Recessive pieds can be very confusing as to gender, but the behaviour should give it away.

Jedi does look like a boy to me!
I'd say that they are both boys. Girls I have had are quieter when it comes to singing and squawk more.

Mine do squawk a ridiculous amount, lol. They hate when I wash dishes for some reason and like to sing the sound of their people...loudly. Kinda sounds like they're being murdered

Ah, but do they sing really loudly? my boys squawk too, but the girls ratio of squawking to singing is higher!

It's hard to tell if the singing is all that loud. Since it's mostly squaking and screeching with some really nice chirps in between. Maybe it is singing and I can't really tell the difference since I haven't owned birds that long
