Hello my little mate Skipper. First i have to apologies as i now know what happened, the reason why you left this life behind. It was my fault , i'm so sorry as i said to Rocky it was a mistake. It's important that you know that i never men't any harm to any of you. I know it wont bring you back, you deserved better. The irony is that we fought so hard for your life, You and i and of course Rocky he gave you friendship and a reason to fight. I gave you the vets and mixed your medicine so your water was more like a life giving soup. I too gave you love. I also admired you, admired your spirit, your will to go on.
The times i'd wake to think "is he still with us ?" to uncover you to find you sitting on your perch, that horrible yellow stuff all down your chest. You where so tiny and thin i couldn't help thinking this is to much for the little guy it might be better if we took a last trip to the vets. Then you'd move and i knew you where looking at Rocky and i'd think no, not yet. So off we'd go and clean you up. As soon as i'd put you back in your house and open'd the doors you'd set of to Rocky's. You couldn't fly so you'd climb, Rocky would get off his swing and get up on his high perch, we'd both be willing you on Rocky leaning forward on his perch me leaning forward on the settee "go on Skipper you can do it" and you did straight to his seed pot to munch away for ages. I can see Rocky now leaning right out looking at you sometimes he'd come down to you but never interrupted you. Then when you'd had enough you'd look up, shuffle over to Rocky the feathers on your head would rise and i knew you where happy. Who was i to take that way from you when you fought so hard for.
I saw something in you Skipper somehow i saw it right from the beginning. Some only saw the outside the little skinny weak runt. I saw the inner you, inside you where strong, brave and yes mighty. You tried so hard and never gave in. Mighty Skipper the brave eh.
I saw your disappointments to, when Rocky flew off and you'd rush to the edge of the landing platform your little head would start to bob and you'd launch yourself stubby wings going like crazy only to fall straight down to the carpet poor Skipper. I got you a ladder so you could get back. And baths you'd have love'd to play in the water with Rocky but you got to cold and i'd have to warm you up in my hands.
But through all of this you had your moments times when you'd be happy like the photo that's you at your best remember those Ducks never stood a chance ! You'd even got a bit of a tail there.
So i remember you Skipper i'll never forget you little mate. If you'd have been born whole you'd have been magnificent ( i always thought you were anyway). I remember your fight and it was such a privilege to be part of it. And i try to remember what you taught me. Whilst there's life and something to live for never give in, you didn't. I remember how i love'd you and still do.
I still say some words for you every night. I know god will be kind to you little Skipper and you'll be flying alongside Rocky now not just sitting with him. I hope one day i'll get to see that. So night night little Skipper sleep well.
