Hello everyone, I'm sure you will all be pleased to know that the two buds we have left are perfectly fine, eating their veggies and being loud (I will get some pictures tomorrow when its lighter) and in a week or so we will be adding a Kakariki to our mad home we are not sure if its male or female (I will call it a he for now) but he has been given the name Sora after the Kingdom Hearts character. I wasn't going to get another bird but we went to the exotic pet shop we got Acorn from to let them know how he was doing and my sister wanted to look at the budgies so we went over and in this mediumish size cage was this little green bird running around, most of the feathers on his chest were missing and he only had one perch and no toys so I just felt a bit sorry for him really. I put a £10 deposit down that day and will pay the rest (£25) when we go to pick him up.

Aw bless her. Hope she gets better very soon, as I am sure she will under your care and supervision. I hate it when people leave birds to get to into this state. Do you khow of her background at all wolfcrazy64? Please keep us updated with her progress. I seem to have missed your story about the two pretty budgies, will have a look around and see if I can find other posts. Have been a bit busy myself to read everything on here lately.

Poor Kakariki, do you know what is wrong with him/her? French moult? mites? something else? Were the pet shop treating him/her? Surprised that they let the bird be sold in this condition.
Hope you can make him/her better.

Regarding the sex of the Kakariki I got his information from here: feistyhome.phpwebhosting.com/kakariki.htm"Kaks are dimorphic so there's no need for DNA or surgical sexing as long as you know what to look for. It's pretty obvious. Males are about 15 grams heavier than females and also have bigger heads and wider beaks. The females look very thin and dainty. Most males also seem to have a brighter shade of red than hens. Chicks can be sexed by the width of their beaks when their pinfeathers are just beginning to open. Use the following pictures as a guide to sexing your kaks."

That poor bird looks as if it didn't have a good start in life, I do hope that now s/he's settled with you there is a vast improvement. Well done for taking 'it' on

I'm sure with some love and care and a good diet, this poor neglected bird will come on leaps and bounds. Well done for giving it a loving home.

Hello everyone, Xena is now home and has settled in well. She has been trying fruits and veg with carrot being her favorite she has been chirping along with the budgies and it looks like her feathers are beginning to grow back. I don't know anything about her background but apparently kakariki can lose their feathers when very stressed. She isn't picking at her sore patch on her wing anymore, which is also healing. I'll see if I can get some more pictures up when I get home from work

Ooooh I am so excited for you and can't wait for pictures and updates. So glad to here that Xena is doing well already. By the sounds of it she has been missing out on the veggies and is making up for it now. So pleased for you both.
