Good morning all & a Happy New Year to you Ok so i thought i'd send a quick update on Cracker & ask a few questions too if thats ok After spending a few days getting used to his cage he seems nice & relaxed. He loves watching Cbeebies which makes him talk such a lot! LOL. Him and my toddler where chatting away at the start of Show me show me this morning (only mums & dads will have a clue what i'm on about!!) ;D He is sitting on my shoulder as i type this too so i think he's starting to like me But i'm hoping you can help me with a few querries? When he is out f his cage he does a lot of beak grinding?! Does this mean he is happy or sad? Also when i go near his cage (either to get him out or just sit on the sofa) he suddenly starts stretching his wings and ruffering his feathers? Again is this a good sign or not? Also he seems to enjoy being out of his cage and will sit with me for 20mins/half an hr before flying back but he doesnt like coming out of the cage? Will this come with time? He sits on my finger but as soon as i move towards the door he hops back onto his pearch! It takes a good few attempts before he stays on my finger. But all in all i think we're becoming friends Thanks all x

He sits on my finger but as soon as i move towards the door he hops back onto his pearch! It takes a good few attempts before he stays on my finger. I think this is quite common. Puck will spend all day out his cage but will only let me take him out if I pick him up from one perch - otherwise he'll hop off my finger Some times even then he wont come out, so if I think he ought to (like i'm going out later) I'll put his 'litttle land ramp' in the door and a ping pong ball on that, he cant help himself but come out to knock it off - some times he'll then fly round the room even after having refused to come out on my finger. My point is, I dont think they always know what they want hehe. As for getting him better at coming out, if you have some millet spray pull off 1 bud from it, then use it has a small treat when he does come out on your finger - if he totally refuses, maybe take him near to the door and then treat him, he should get what's going on soon. When I wanted to train just this with Puck I'd get him out, give him 3 bites of millet then put him back in, take my hand out his cage, then do it again

But all in all i think we're becoming friends Thanks all x beak grinding is a good sign it shows he's happy and content . Hmm i think with the wing stretching and ruffling ,he's either trying to say i want to fly around the room in his own little way or it's just a coincidence - he does it when you go past the cage . My Tazz can be like that (not wanting to come out the cage) But once he's out he loves it, i think they consider their cage a home and don't really like to leave it. Not sure really . I hope i helped a little
