Hi! I am new to this forum, and sort of? new to budgie owning. My family had a number of these lovely birds (and a cockatiel) while I was growing up, but I've just gotten my first budgies as an adult. I got two, an olive green and a yellow pied (Not sure the exact genetics. Bird is mostly yellow, with a light green "cape" around it's upper chest, and extending down the back between the wings.)
We don't know the sexes yet either. The olive green (Riley) is too young, seems to be about 3mos old now, and is molting and starting to lose baby stripes. The yellow (Olympia) we can't tell much. I figure, once the olive green reaches maturity, we can assume the yellow is also mature (I think its older), and then figure it out based on eye color and cere color.
ETA: Sorry, I thought this didn't post, so I did the other post, and they are pretty redundant. I'll just make this an intro. Thanks! -MouseHQ

Hello MouseHQ, glad you joined us. From what I read in your post you are doing just fine. All you need to do now is keep doing it. If you have browsed our forum you may notice that we love photos of budgies.

Welcome to the forum mousehq. As OP said, seems you are doing all the right things. Birdies like company, but if you can't keep them company at times - leave the radio on for them, even though they have each other. Do you cover them at night time too, I think that is always a good thing. Helps them to relax and go to sleep.

Re: covering at night---heh, last night we had a major storm, and a blackout, so it was definitely dark enough then!

Though it's not an absolute requirement to put a cover over the cage, in fact a number of people don't, I have a couple of cameras peeping the cage and before I cover them up they are all having a whale of a time. Within minutes of the cover going on everyone settles down for the night. When it's dark on a morning they are all in exactly the same place as they were when I went to bed. There is some ambient light from equipment I have going all night, so if one of them did get a fright they could find a place to roost. Thunder and lightning, fireworks have never bothered them when th cover is on, but it's a different story when the cover is off. Make of it what you will. I know which way I think.

Hi and welcome. Just to say three months is not too young to be able to tell genders, if you want to post photos up in that section, I am sure we will be able to give you some guidance.
