bit of a strange question is it possible to breed red or black budgies??

no they don't have the genes . Although theirs a mutation already present called "anthracite" it's not all that common but it does exist ,it's a kind of grey/blacky colour. . Their have also been various other mutations with black faces or various other parts of their body for instence the black/coal face but not pure black allOver. (infact im not sure if the coal face was a confirmed new mutation, im pretty sure it's extinct now though)

A red budgie isn't possible at all as there is no red colour gene in budgies. Here is Budgerigar Colour and Markings Chart

We have every chance of breeding a black budgerigar , in our attempt to breed bigger spots and clearer markings we are breeding birds with excessive melamine that now extends over the back and down into the tail, the coalface is recognised Ryan and i have seen some very black coalface faces. I did breed this one that carried a pink sheen
