Whatever you're doing, it's working. Elfie will decide just what he wants to do and when. Let him take the lead. Sounds like he really trusts you though.

You could start teaching him to step-up. So that he gets to the stage where if you offer him your finger, he will step up onto it without you pushing him. Put your index finger across his chest (like a little perch), give him a gentle push with it and say step-up as you do. You just have to push hard enough so that he will start to lose his balance, and so he will put his foot onto your finger. It might take a few times before he does put his foot on you and you will feel like you are going to push him off his perch. Don't go quite that far!! And of course lots of praise when he does what you want (maybe a little reward). Step-up is the handiest thing to have your bird do without thought - it makes things a lot easier if they get themselves into situations that are tricky or even dangerous.

Hezz is right. Plus I'd start the step up training now, and don't wait.

ok i tried with finger but he wasnt sure so i tried with the handle of wooden spoon and he stepped up and down up and down ectect,i thought maybe i could now continue with that but each time cover the handle more & more with my finger until finally its just my finger for him to step up to,does that sound ok? ps he seems very very pleased with himself haha

If that's what you are comfortable with, go for it, but don't leave him with the spoon too long. Once he will step onto your finger and will stay a while, you can get him going from one hand to the next, in a rolling sort of motion, index finger to index finger. For some reason this seemed to work very well for my birds. I think because you can do it quite quickly and they don't have much of a chance to fly away in between times. It's good he seems happy with himself for doing something positive - should make your job so much easier! Keep us updated, please.
