Besides Oats is there anything that I can give a budgie to help him gain weight?
Are there any millets or seeds that are higher in calories than others?
Thanks
Marianne

millet is very poor in calories as far as i know it's a myth that too much millet makes budgies fat. Things like Hemp and nyjer seed (especially nyjer) can help them put on weight. Also sunflower seed and Cod liver Oil. But budgies tend to not eat sunflower seeds, My budgies will though eat both nyjer and hemp quite readily .

I was going to say egg food too, and yes Ryan, sunflower seeds, but you would have to buy them already husked, as they are too big for a budgie to husk (so I was told, anyway). Health food stores will have them.

I'll see about giving some egg today. Thanks you everyone Ryan I know millet isn't fattening, but the way that they scoff it down when I give it to them I would have thought that they would ingest more than normal seed and therefore have more calories?
