Can he ever keep out of trouble?? Short answer - NO!!! We were away for a few days, Number 2 son at home taking care of pets etc, only to have him ring us to say that Mac-the-Mutt had open sores on his neck. So after a clean up of said sores, a washing of dog (he smelt like a fly-blown sheep) and a trip to the vet, we find out he has something neither of us have encountered before - hot spots. Blame the weather and his liking for rolling in the (wet) grass. Vet assured us they are quite common at this time of year - hot, humid, raining, with nothing drying out completely. Thankfully he seems little affected by it all .....

Welcome home, I hadn't noticed you were missing. Sorry you had to come back to an infected dog. If the condition your dog has is common how come your dog hasn't had it before.

Poor Mac - strange how these things always seem to happen when one is away!! Hope Mac isn't scratching and making it worse. Hope he gets better soon too.

Poor Mac, hopefully he'll be fine soon, did he get an ointment or something to make sure it doesn't become infected?

There's no peace is there Hezz, you can guarantee if your going away something will throw a spanner in the works, with us its usually a bud or the dog . Poor Mac . Tilly gets hot spots in the summer, the vet told us its more common in white dogs. In Tilly's case she WILL NOT leave them alone, scratches and if she can reach, licks them making them ten times worse, she often has to have a jab as well as cream to settle it all down

Is he a white or light coloured dog? Our little Wendy suffers terribly in our British summer (yes!) but she's mainly white and old. She loves lying in the garden when it's hot and sunny but gets awful itchy, spotty skin which we have to bathe and apply an antiseptic too! Never had it with our beagles and Wendy is our first err cross breed.

We have some steroid and antiseptic cream, plus antibiotics. He is heaps better already,; the wounds clean and dry. OP, why hasn't he had them before? Vet says they are often caused by something biting - tick, flea, spider, ant, even. It looks like whatever has gotten under his collar and had a right old time, as it is all around his neck.

Ah, I was under the impression he had done the damage by rubbing in the grass. Not by picking something up from doing the same. Senior moment.

I didn't explain properly, OP ..... blame me trying to beat the internet dropping in and out. The sore look heaps better already, although he has lots of little lumps and bumps all over his shoulders and neck area. Just some given a huge allergic reaction. But he is handling it all very well, except for the electric razor. Very, very bad, that horrible whinny thing!

This one will make you laugh ....... Heavens only knows what this animal has been through; we got him at 12 months old, so not too much could go wrong, you would think .... and he has been with us for five years, come the end of the month.
