My little budgie is now getting on to my finger to eat millet -yay! However, he gets a little over-excited and when the millet is finished, and I try to put him back on his perch, he starts pecking at my hand and my fingers, trying to hold on with his beak. Any tips to stop the pecking please, as he's getting painful!

Pecking is their only form of defence, so to be expected really. As your budgie learns to trust you and sees that you mean him no harm, the pecking should stop as he feels safe.

Budgies also use their beaks to test whatever they are going to step onto and will hold onto whatever they may feel they are falling off of. I don't know your method of getting him to step down, but maybe a slight change is needed. It could also be that he is not ready to leave you at that time and just wants to be with you.
