The holidays are coming so soon I am going to need to transport the little one. He already has a travel cage. He now steps on to my finger and palm of my hand but he hasn't had any time out of his cage yet mainly because I'm concerned he'll fly madly and I'll never be able to get him back in! My question is, should I leave off him having out of cage time until after the hols? Is there any point in trying to get him used to the travel cage, or is this likely to stress him out? Lastly, any tips for getting him into the travel cage in the first place? thx

I have just purchased a travel cage for mine in case of emergency. My plan is to get them used to seeing it around the place and near to the cage so that if I need to use it it shouldn't stress them out too much. If I have to put one of them in I will simply pick him/her up and place them in the cage. I think it may be a good idea to get your bud used to the cage before you have to use it. Maybe others that have used a travel cage will have different ideas.

By all means get him used to the cage before the event. Make it a home away from home, something to be explored. Get your bird used to being handled and you won't have much difficulty getting him into the same cage.
