Just wondering if anyone has fully trained a bird outside of their cage? Or have you any tips to do so? Thanks ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I started with step up inside the cage. Because it can be difficult to get that going outside the cage. You want them to be familiar with your hand before letting them out, usually. But I then moved my birds out, on top of their cage, and worked from there with step up and such. Now I use their play gym and reinforce training. They are now consistent with "shoulder" and one of them is learning to fly to my finger from a little distance away. I plan to increase the distance.
Others will have different experiences.

It is all about being consistent with your training. You cannot stop the training process at any stage or they will revert to doing what they want to do, and you will have days when they will not co-operate as well. Just as you don't teach a dog to sit and then never use the sit command but still expect it to know what to do, with the birds you need to be constantly reinforcing those things that you need from them. None of this can be rushed, either. Generally you will find a single bird will become tame more quickly than multiples as the single bird will focus on you and not his friend.
I don't there are any real tips, but just finding what it is that engages your particular bird; working on their strengths and weaknesses.
