Interesting question there samwiseg. I really don't know, I am not 'up' on the breeding mutation of chickens. BUT, you can get Black, White and the latest colour 'Lavendar' Orpingtons. Lavendars haven't yet been accepted into the Poultry Club standards. I would imagine you would put a black Orpington cockerel with ? what can we say, a white Orpington hen? Who knows?? My breeder would!!!

From what I have found online it would seem that you breed lacewings with blacks and lavenders to get blues...I think! It does seem though that through the lines they have been (if you'd excuse the term as your hens are lovely) watered down quite a bit so may have inherited negative attributes along the way...as well as positives of course
