Our blue budgie Ollie broke a blood feather last week....it was noticed when I woke them up in the morning.....the bleeding had stopped however there was alot of blood in the cage.....I was able to clean his tail feather and he spent a day in the "budgie caravan".....(we have a ladder between the two cages for an extra playground for them.....plus they like to use the bath in the old cage and not the fancy one in the new).....this he did of his own choosing and Bede and Aidan left him alone....is this a common thing with budgies.....

I have had it happen a couple of times. Once with Sky when a LOT of blood came out. It was very scary. We caught him and put flour on the bleeding area. Put him in one of the smaller cages and covered him by himself overnight with low perches. As he lost a lot of blood (well it seemed a lot to me)
He was fine thankfully.
The other time it happened there was no mess, the blood was dried on the feather.
I believe it happens quite often.
