Long time no see people! Sorry I haven't been around.
I've been bitten by the bird bug again, and am now researching cockatiels.. Anyone have any experience with them who can give me information and advice? I've heard they are calmer and more docile than budgies, is this true? How loud are they? What is their diet like? How much space do they need?

They are very nervous birds in my experience. They eat basically the same as budgies. They need a lot of flying time and space.

My experience, while only second-hand, has been that they are a much more needy bird than budgies, and most certainly not calmer. Budgies will happily entertain themselves, even if a single bird with enough toys; cockatiels need much more human-time and will resort to screeching, biting and feather-plucking if their human doesn't deliver. I think a cockatiel would be one of the worst birds possible for you.

It seems strange to research getting a Cockatiel when you were worried about not coping with your budgies due to your ill health.
