I bought a budgie around 3 years ago now and over that time I managed to tame her quite well. She would get on my finger and shoulder and would come to my hand when I called. A week ago, I moved her from a small inside cage to a large outdoor aviary , and she was fine, and then I got her a new budgie friend. She's definitely happier and she gets along with the other budgie, but she doesn't even let me take on step towards her. If I get near to her she immediately flies away. The other day she managed to eat some millet from my hand but this morning it had just gone back to when I first got her. She doesn't trust me anymore. Should I give her more time to acclimatise to the changes? And does this mean I have to retrain her ? Thanks! Also any tips on how to tame her because I've forgotten what I did those 3 years ago, but I remember it being a very long and frustrating process.

Is the other budgie tame at all? Probably not, I am guessing. There has been a lot of changes in a very short time for her; she is probably rather confused. Why not bring her back inside every other day, or so, while you get her used to her new environs and budgie friend, and new routine? You are going to have to work harder at keeping her relatively tame because you are not around her all the time you are home - you have to make the effort to go and visit her; she isn't living with you all the time.
