Long story short, I was working out of state for 2 months. My husband did manage to keep the birds alive, but my worst fear came true and they don't remember me.
I've started at the beginning, and it seems I don't have to start exactly from step one. They accept millet, I've managed to get them to step up. On the occasion that I can get them to their play gym out of their cage I can sometimes get them to step up from there as well.
Strange enough, Basal, being the timid one, has accepted me easier than Link. Link was my super affectionate boy that would fly to my shoulder and sing to my ear. Now, he goes skinny and flat and is the more difficult of the two to get out of the cage for outside time.
I'd like the group's thoughts on one thing though. Link has become particularly attached to this toy that has a bell. He sticks his head inside it and sings. It is absolutely adorable. I'm thinking he has become a bit too attached, though, because when I start working with them in the cage (the usual taming steps), Link goes to the bell and tries to hide in and behind it. If I'm working them to be out of the cage he does the same thing. There are other places he could hide that would prevent me from working with him easily.
Should I take the bell toy out for now? Move it to the play gym to try and coax him out of the cage easier?
It does break my heart that he doesn't jump on my shoulder and nibble my ear when I'm trying to get them ready for bed. Basal honestly doesn't seem that different towards me so I think he has warmed back up easier.
