Will it really be canker Barrie? Just read a bit on it and you have worried me. She is no longer bringing up the frothy stuff, but she is clearly weak and shaky. She has been drinking a lot of water, is this a sign of canker? She hasn't eaten any seed though but I have put a millet spray in to try and entice her. I am also worried that if it is canker that the treatment won't get here quick enough, should I take her to my vets? don't know if you've heard of it but if she isn't eating you could try www.northernparrots.com/poly-aid-emergency-nutrition-40g-prod6130/it's designed for sick birds not eating and from what iv'e heard can be a life saver. or if she does eventually eat gaurdian angel could help her keep energy/vitamin levels up. just a suggestion good luck at the vets .

I have made her a vets appointment as I want to know for certain and get her treated straight away, its at 3:40pm today. I will be ordering guardian angel though, and most likely the canker treatment if thats what it is so I can dose my budgies in the house as a preventative for the future.
How do birds get canker Barrie? I have tried googling it and I have read that it is a parasite that gets into their drinking water but how does it get into the water in the first place? Also how do I prevent this in future? On top of treating them every six months of course.

PARASITE CAN BE FOUND IN ANY AVIARY , A BOUGHT IN BIRD MAY HAVE CARRIED IT IN , IT IS PASSED ON IN WATER FOUNTAINS , THIS IS WHY I HAVE OPTED FOR A SEALED WATER SYSTEM , PREVENTIVE MEDS WILL HELP KEEP IT AT BAY RACHEAL. ASK YOUR VET FOR A CROP SWAB TO BE TAKEN, THEY MAY HAVE TO SEND THIS OFF AS MANY OF THE VETS USE AVIAN VETS FOR GUIDANCE

Just got back from the vets and he said she has an infection and has prescribed baytril which I have to give her three times a day using a syringe to drop it into the corner of her mouth. I asked about a crop swab and he said that it would take three to four days to come back which would be too late and that it would cost approx £70!! He said she is really bad because the infection is from one end to the other, as she has diarreaha too. I just have to keep up with the baytril and hope that she fights and pulls through.
We are keeping her indoors to monitor her and keep her warm and calm as one of the young cocks has been constantly calling to her which will, I feel, distress her. She is really really weak and I am worried that she hasn't eaten anything in over 24 hours.

I'd crush up some pellets and mix with apple juice if you have it and give her some of that (in a syringe) if she hasn't eaten. This is what we did for Blueboy when he wouldn't eat.
