I noticed very quickly that Tuppence, one of my older ladies, was limping and I couldn't see anything wrong, and just thought she had stood up and perhaps got cramp. However, next day she was still limping and on closer examination found that she had bumblefoot. You may be interested in this starlingqueen and sophiemaisie. One of my other chooks had this and had it surgically removed by the vet, under anaesthetic, and did not recover, so we lost her. My daughter, who I must say, has loads of savvy and loads of patience in researching and she came up with this link on how to remove bumblefoot in chooks without surgery: www.tillysnest.com/2015/12/non-surgical-bumblefoot-treatment-html/Needless to say, we followed instructions and managed to do this most successfully. Tuppence was so relaxed in her foot spa, that she actually tried to sit down and her chin which was originally resting on my arm was crinkling up her wattles. I had to remove my arm, so she rested her head on the draining board of the sink. (I thought at one point we were going to have to get a snorkle for her!!) Pictures to follow: Bumble Foot 1 by , on Flickr Sooooo relaxed..... Bumble Foot 2 by , on Flickr All clean and dry and all gone... Bumble foot 3 by , on Flickr In our delight we omitted to take pictures of the foot, all neatly dressed with Fucidin and neatly wrapped in blue 'vetwrap' (brilliant stuff I might add). I am pleased to say, this procedure happened yesterday, the dressing is still intact, and will be checked on Monday. Tuppence is also walking properly and not limping at all.

I have removed bumblefoot from one of my chooks after seeing my vet do it, but she or myself didn't soak the foot first or dress it. The vet just left it as it was and so did I. I did think it was odd that she didn't dress it or even put any form of cream on it but it healed fine. I will be using your method in future Shirls, thank you for the tip.

Yes, agree with you there OP. Never thought the day would come when I had to scoop up chicken poo, feel inside their bum(!!!), give them injections, beak administer drugs, let alone perform operations!!! Having said that, the information is out there on the internet, it's just a case of researching!

You can't see much, but this is Tuppence's bandaged foot. The dressing is still intact today (Sunday), so I am very pleased. Tuppence bandage by Flickr

Yes, no problems with walking Marianne Marlow, you wouldn't know she had a problem with her foot at all. Bandage comes off tomorrow and depending on how it looks, we may re-dress it, or leave it off altogether.
