Muddy dressing? Well she is a chook, after all. Well done to everyone for the dressing staying on. That is a great result in itself.

I must admit, or even 'come clean' that the 'operation' and bandaging is all my daughters' handiwork. I just held on to the 10lb 2oz chicken!! She weighs a ton after only about 5 minutes! I am not saying that I wouldn't have done the op, I'm not squeamish or anything, it's just the way it worked out, we only followed instructions on the link. We undid the dressing this morning and the wound is looking very clean, no infection, but is still open. So we decided to saline bathe it and redress again, in the hopes that the saline will dry it out completely. The hole has shrunk which is good, so it is healing. I don't know if you can see by the photo that the darkest part of the wound (about the size of a small pea) is the only bit that is open, the rest is healing.

Well done Shirls's daughter. I pleased you came clean and did not claim all the glory. A good bit of teamwork all the same. Is this bumblefoot similar to a verruca that we can get?

I was also wondering if it was similar to a verruca, or perhaps a bunion?
A great bit of teamwork, I agree.

Bumblefoot is an infection that is "walled" off by the body, encapsulating it to prevent it from spreading. That's why it's so hard to treat with antibiotics, it's no longer part of the body, it's closed to the blood supply so no medication can get to it via the blood stream. It's basically a pocket of dead cells.

They are like bed-sores, as I understand.

Your photos reminded me of my old girl Lily, she had little blue shoes just like that. I hope she's feeling tip top soon x

Tuppence still has her vetwrap on, we are going to have another look on Monday, to see if it can be removed samwiseg. She is still walking normally and apparently it does take a week or two to heal, so we don't want to remove the bandage too soon.

So, we had a look at Tuppence's foot today. Took the bandage off, and find that it has completely healed and dried up! 8 Days after the initial operation. What good news, I am so pleased and I think she is too. She is walking normally and doing normal chickeny things. Daughter came over today to remove 'blue bootie' and all is well. Image to follow: Bumble update by Flickr All clean and dry, just marked where it used to be. If only we could do this when a budgie has bumblefoot!
