We have now had Pepito for 5 months and he has turned out to be very trainable! He can say a lot of things: Pepito Good boy Cute wee budgie Gorgeous boy/Gorgeous budgie Go get him! (that's what we say when he's playing with his toy budgie) Peep bo! Thank you Kiss/kiss you Oh dear! (oops, we didnt mean him to learn that one! ) These are all things he has said clearly, I think he's still trying to say other things. We tend to repeat what he says after him in the hope he will learn to say them even more clearly. He also does the following things when we ask him to - rings his bell, knocks his toy budgie over and puts his foot on the budgie. (He sometimes also sits and rings his bell when he wants to come out of his cage which is so cute!) He will come to me when I say "come"- if he wants to - and also give me a 'kiss' if I ask him, but I don't often get two kisses in a row! That's just asking too much... ;D And he has just started to go back to his cage when we say "Go home!" Not always willingly though... He won't let me stroke or scratch him though, but can't complain as he's achieved a lot in 5 months! He was already hand tame when we got him which I think has made a big difference. I think this must be the age for him learning things (he's 8 months) so we'll keep going with the training! Ruth

He'll be all ears at the moment. So funny when they chat away to you on your shoulder.
Mine wouldn't let fingers stroke him for a very long time, though I could always do it with my nose. I'm talking around 18 months. Even when he was very tame. However, he's only recently realised he loves having his mask gently stroked in the opposite direction to the feather growth. Now he comes over and taps me with his beak and sticks his head forward, demanding a rub.
So you never know.

That's great progress, Ruth. I am sure having a hand tamed bird makes them much more receptive to you. Are you home with him most of the day, as well? He sounds an absolute delight. I can't remember what Pepito looks like, will have to go back through the photos to find him.

Stace, I think I read before that your budgie suddenly decided he liked to be stroked after all when you'd been trying for ages so I haven't given up! He does let me kiss his back and he will sometimes let me rub my cheek against him,he just doesn't want stroked with fingers yet! He just keeps stepping up or sometimes plants his foot on the finger I'm trying to stroke him with as if to say, "Don't you dare!" :-)
Hezz - he has company most of the time with either me or my Mum around. I work part time but Mum is home a lot and spends time chatting to him and playing with him too. He also gets plenty of visitors so he has a very interesting life! :-) Our cleaner was in today and he flew on to her shoulder and sat there watching her doing some polishing! Thankfully she loves him and was delighted he came to her. It's good to have him on your shoulder, but it's a killer when he chirps right in your ear! :-)

Isn't it?! Bluey has a lovely habit of putting his head in my ear and giving it the once-over. Nibble, nibble ever so gently and with the occasional tiniest little peep, as though he knows he could blast your eardrums while he has his head right in your ear. Tickles like crazy, but feels so good too. He is on-again, off-again with getting a scratch. And now so much lately, I think he isn't so relaxed with the other two around as one or the other are trying to butt in on him. Funny your cleaner becoming a Pepito fan too. They certainly know how to worm their way into our affections.

That reminds me of Munchy the other day, Hezz XD He was sitting on my granddad's shoulder and started chewing his ear repeatedly, although he stopped whenever me or nan tried to look at him to see what he was doing. He doesn't bite hard (it's almost like he doesn't know how to XD I say that because he doesn't seem able to work out how to bite a piece off a thin slice of carrot) but he made granddad's ear sore after a while. It was very funny.
And he's just discovered that he does in fact like broccoli. He's been chewing it a lot this afternoon. I haven't been taking him out of his cage the past two days and he's started getting into playing with some of his toys and exploring his cage because of it. He loves chewing his mineral block too, although mainly the edges that he hasn't already chewed.

First time Puck nibbled/groomed my neck I got a lovely red patch from him We've now come to something of an agreement that my beard is allowed but the ears are off limits! He loves chewing his mineral block too, although mainly the edges that he hasn't already chewed. Puck did this as well, after a while he'd rounded off all the edges and abandoned it, so I with a knife I scrapped along the rounded bits till they we're flattened and there were corners for him to go at. I guess he might have eventually gone for it anyway - but it keeps me busy ;D
