Monty had Scaly-mites and a crusty beak when we first got him - back in 2009. I found an old photo to show you what he looked like. Of course we had no idea that there was anything wrong with him back then being new budgie owners. Thank god for the internet as I got him treated and it cleared up. He also had a dirty bottom, I had to clean it twice a day. plus scaly legs which I slathered in vaseline - he let me as long as I gave him millet at the same time! Photo then: He's the one on the right. The left is Eric who passed away 2 years today. Here is Monty now:

Marianne, his beak (and all healthy beaks, I suppose - mine do) is shiney in the healthy photo. I imagine his beak was not that smooth, shiney texture when he had mites? It is a little hard to tell in the picture. I would guess that a budgie whose beak is a little rough and not shiney, is not a healthy bird?

Sorry Hezz, I didn't have a fancy camera at the time the photo was taken so it was from my phone!
Yes his beak was rough like sandpaper and his cere was very dry and light at the bottom.

Sorry to hear about Eric Marianne, our thoughts are with you and as for Monty, his beak does look crusty round the edges I think. Thanks for sharing as it is worth having the photos to be able to compare if needed (as you know)
