hi can any 1 help me pls i have a bird female budgie i got her last week and was told shes 10 weeks old from the shope keeper i paid £30 for a small cage the bird a few toys and a bag of seed and a few strands of millt. She has been fine up till last night i came home and she was in the conner of the cage she could not even hold her self up i feared the worse i picked her up and i noticed that there was seed which seemed to be stuckin her mouth. i took a straw mandge to clear most of it but she seemed dead in my hands at which point i was blowing the down the straw which i put into her mouth and she came to . at which point i give her a warm blanket and keeped her on my chest for a hour give her a few drinks with a straw and she was back to her normal self . i thought she might of just been greeded and eat to much so i put less seed in today and keep a eye on her she seemed fine then i went out and came home and the same again but no food stuck this time i took her out again give her some water than again a hour later back to normal . the seed im feed is the 1 give buy the pet shop its in a sealed air tight box and the only other thing ive added was a trill feed block can any 1 help pls

im sure someone who no's a lot more than me will be along with some proper advice soon. But all i can suggest is to keep her warm for now. Is she away from draghts? Also do her droppings look normal?

I’m no expert but I would say its dehydration, place a shallow bowl of water on the floor until you’re sure she is using the intended water supply. Good luck

good call nipper. Maybe the water feeding you have in your cage is different to the one that she is used to in the shop? Maybe try and find out what she was drinking from there and get one the same if she is having problems drinking out of the one that you have?

People must remember a bird in any new enviroment will struggle to find their way around , this creates stress which then ends as a poprly budgie. Nice call Paul.
MH don't buy from petshops

How is your budgie now MH? I'm sorry she's been so ill but am amazed at your quick thinking and first aid with the straw! I've never heard of anything like that and am glad it seems to have worked. I hope she is finding her way to her water better now and will be fine. Good luck!
