This green male budgie has spots of blue feathers on his back as well. I've never seen one like this and can't find any info about this kind of pattern. Does anyone know what kind of mutation/variation is this?

Do you have any other info on the bird? Age, diet, living conditions etc. I have seen something similar once before but we never found a definite cause. Feathers can lose colour or change colour due to stress of different sorts but budgies are generally not so prone to this as perhaps the larger parrots are.

I saw this bird at the pet store and brought it home with me. He seems to be a little smaller than my other birds, but maybe that's just because he's 3 month-old.

He is young, going through his first moult, then, which is what I thought. His cere is very blue for a young budgie, though. An odd one; be interesting how he pans out.

You are right! I did notice a slight colour change when my violet mauve budgie went through his first moult.
I'll follow-up in a month after he's done moulting and see what happens then.
