Do you think that an outside flight on an aviary is a necessity or do think that indoor flights with windows to let natural light in is ok and adequate enough?
Thanks

So quite a mixed view on this then. I have an outside flight now but can see mostly cons to having one. Obviously the natural light does then good but there would be 4 windows in the aviary and 2 big double doors on the front which I can leave open in summer. And I would also provide uv lighting for the vitamin d so what would they be missing out on with not having the out door flight.

I personally feel that having the option of an outdoor flight does benefit budgies greatly. They get more exercise, and benefit from fresh air and sunlight. While its not always possible for people to have an outdoor flight if you have the space for it then I would definitely have one. My budgies aren't allowed in the outdoor flight at the moment due to the cold windy weather but I know that in the summer they will be very happy budgies indeed, zooming around the flight, chattering away

I have one that is hardly used , fresh air comes in through open doors and windows plus the flights can attract vermin.

I have 18 budgies in an outside flight with access to an indoor aviary. They stay out when it's cold or wet but when the sun shines they go inside. They go inside especially when it's warm in the middle of the day. They fly around, chattering, squabbling and preening each other so I guess they are happy budgies. I have two budgies in a very large cage (6' high x 4' wide) in my conservatory and therefore out of the cold, wind and snow and they are much more quiet and sedate. I believe the outside budgies are happier.
