So I've managed to breed my first mauve without even knowing it. What's the deal with mauve? What's the Dark Factor on it? Is it rare? Wondered if anyone else could shed some light on this colour for me. Is it carried by one parent or both, or a certain colour, or pairings of colour? Here's the chick, he started out olivey greygreen, much like Theodore. As he's aged, he's changed into the mauve colour. Colour change can be seen in the reverse timeline below. (recent) (younger) I've also got a hen who was produced from the same cock as this brood, but a long time ago, who I've never been able to pinpoint a colour on her. Is she also a "mauve" or just another weird combo colour? She looks super dark green in these images but has had a dark greyish blue tinge to her in normal light since she feathered up as a chick. She's been called Smokey Josephine ever since then! Thanks for any thoughts, Soph.

A mauve is a blue series bird with 2 dark factors. If you pair 2 cobalts together about 25% of the chicks will be mauve
It's the yellow face gene that is causing the changes in colour

I think the feathers weight more than flesh
