Hi everyone, not been here much lately, been so busy with one thing and another, one thing being our puppy Ursa and the other being our puppy Calli. More about that on another thread.
So the Buzzard tale. One morning a week or so ago, I went down the garden to let my little chook out and there on the lawn were loads of feathers, collard dove feathers. My first thought was, If I could get hold of that darned cat, then I thought about seeing what happened on CCTV. I was about to look when I suddenly decided that I didn't want to watch my Cookies mum or dad being murdered. I had to clear up the feathers as the pups would get into them, and while doing so, noticed there was no blood. Then I remembered that when Cookie gets himself stuck in the kitchen, (can't quite navigate the arch) and we have to catch him, he sheds feathers like they are going out of style. We figured a while ago that this was a defence mechanism to being captured. So with that in mind my son and I watched the cctv footage.
At around 6.30 am while fast forwarding, we saw that feathers suddenly appeared on the lawn, from nowhere. We slowed it down and then it all made sense. There was a lot of comothion and birds flying everywhere and then the feathers floated down to the ground. Slowing it down even further we were just able to make out that a Buzzard had flown into the tree, the doves had taken flight with the buzzard in hot pursuit. It was all still a blur even at half speed, so we still were unable to make out if the dove had been captured or not. Then we saw one casually walk under a bush and the other appeared on the top of the greenhouse. What a relief. That Buzzard was not getting his breakfast of dove that morning. And Cookies mum and dad live to fight another day.
As a side note, Cookie must have seen the whole thing as he is in the conservatory with the buds and the Buzzard flew right past the window next to where his cage is with his mum/dad then appearing under the bush next to him.
