I use little plastic pots for my birds food but Impy keeps knocking them off the cage spilling the contents all over the floor. I have a larger circular metal bowl which is in their cage but the downside of that is that they poop in it. The cage is the Ferplast Piano 6 which has its own integral feeders that I’ve never used as being cautious I was worried they’d get their heads stuck in the gap. Has anyone else used these feeders and are they safe do you think?
Otherwise what can I do? I’ve had silo feeders that I hated as they made a mess and wasted a lot of food and I’m not keen on the fountain feeders for seed either as it seems difficult for the seed to come out.
Thanks in advance.

Are those the rotating internal feeders? I thought that was an awful "improvement", particularly as the old design was fine. When I had that cage, I never used them either - I doubt Phinny would have fitted his head in! I use the long narrow seed pots with integrated perch. Less poop in them because they are narrow. However, they might not be suitable for you as they could be unhooked by a naughty bird.

Yes they are sweetpea and they are deep so I can see a bird getting into difficulties if they lean far in. Knowing Chirpy and now Impy imp I can definitely see one of them getting stuck. She’s a one I’ll tell you. I’ve had to put the plastic feeders on the side where the little doors are and hook them on with elastic bands where the little bit is that holds the doors on 🙄. Apart from that and a bit of clicking from Chirpy and some beak action it’s going well. Chirpy has met his female equivalent that’s for sure, she gives as good as she gets 😆

They look good Jane! I had a similar problem with my birds. BUT I do use the Ferplast feeders, the birds don't get their heads stuck in, but they prefer the tube feeder which I must say I control, otherwise they oik all the seed out onto the floor. So when I walk by I let a 'portion' of seed through. If they get hungry they have to use the Ferplast pots!! Which they do, especially when they all want to feed at the same time.

That looks good, Jane.
I have the perfect one for you, and have photos somewhere, but will have to find them, or take another (no time at the mo) ... it screws on and has a little "hat" over it.

Yes, that's it! I got one for when Smudge was a baby as she wanted to sit in every seed pot I came up with. With this one, she sat underneath it. Does it not work for you??

I’ve only ever used it for water. I did wonder whether the budgies could reach to the bottom of it. Impy is quite small so would she get trapped if she leaned right in? I’m just so protective lol

The only issue is the depth of the cup - my birds would/will sit on the side of the dish, or at least with one leg up to lean in. Never had in issue with anyone getting caught.

Thanks Hezz. I’m using it for Squawk as he soiled in his feeder pot yesterday. Looking at it it doesn’t look as deep filled up as it does empty. I’ll get a couple more for the terrible two.
