As most of you know,Elfie is my first ever Budgie...When i first got him i had fallen in love with the way that he looked, then as time went on i loved the way he started to come out of himself tweeting and coming over to sit near me...Well yesturday i noticed a difference with me and him and i now know the bond is so much stronger...Instead of him just tweeting away (really to him self) now when i talk to him he responds back in a really sweet chatty way using all manner of funny little noises, the blinking between us seems stronger also...Now when i put my finger towards him he lifts one foot up and then steps up,we managed about 2 mins yesturday with him on my finger as he ate his millet treat...Its funny to suddenly feel this break through but i love it,its pretty mind blowing! Hope i am making some sort of sence and if so did any of you suddenly realise "the day" when the bond had got stronger?

I know exactly what you mean and it is an amazing feeling I had the same type of moment only a few weeks ago when one of my budgies, Milo, stepped up onto my hand without hesitation. Its only taken a year and a half for him to start to trust me lol.

It is lovely when they trust though. Especially considering they are so tiny compared to us. Not so sure I'd be that trusting with a giant hand!

Yes Rachael. How do you manage to find gloves to fit them?

Yes Rachael. How do you manage to find gloves to fit them? How rude Marianne! ;D Actually I do have a thing about fingerless gloves, I have at least twenty pairs I'll stop taking up the original posters thread now lol.

Agree what a wonderful feeling it is - felt that way with Mont, when she sat on my finger for the first time it was a bit of a shock, but it really hit home when she would sit on my finger looking calmer and you would suddenly feel the heat from her feet as she was relaxing! Good for you though Moogie, for me its the best feeling in the world ;D

Yes, it's a great feeling! I was surprised when Pepito stepped onto my hand the first day I had him - how lucky was I! But it feels really special when he gets obviously excited because I've come home or just come into the room. And when he sits on my hand winking at me, well that just melts my heart!

It's amazing to feel that bond. I had it with my budgie, Herbie. She hated hands, but would fly to my arm when called... eat from my mouth etc. That was when I lived with my parents. I realised one day that I was her favourite when we all called for her, arms raised, but she came to me. She was my best friend, and I guess I was her mate. 13 years together :-) Still miss her like mad, 12 years later!

That is one hell o'va milestone, Moogie! Lovely to know that Elfie has gotten to that stage already. As Rachael said, it can take some time.
I get gooey still when Sparky chooses to land on me under his own steam, rather than me putting my hand out and him stepping up, which he is really good at but doesn't always stay long.
Now is when Elfie is receptive to learning words, if you wish him to talk. Both Bluey and Smudge will actually vocalize their cheeps, so they actually are going "tweet, tweet, cheepy cheep cheep, peep, peep etc. But all those lovely things you say to Elfie on a regular basis, repeating them while he is "talking back" to you will get him there sooner, if he is going to be a talker. (Some do, some don't, so don't let it be an issue if he doesn't.)

Good for you. Some just want a "bird who will talk" This is true - Monts doesn't talk and is still such a character, plus you do get to know what she means by certain whistles or tweets - it can be most endearing
